Hobbit tribute

Just something I thought would be neat to do; a (feeble) semi-realistic attempt at redoing the cover for The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I really do apologize for the poor quality -- stupid Corel Painter made the image I saved look hazy so I wound up over-compensating with much of the highlights...or at least those on the trees on the "sunset" side of the picture. Stupid sponge brush....

But I did wind up loving the lighting, and how it plays on the Lonely Mountain. And then there's Smaug with his fireworks.... I'm also happy with how I actually put some of the mountains (which don't really make sense in this area) in the distance. There's a small measure of depth! But ugh...I hate trying to paint/draw forests.... And I'm not very happy with how the eagles came out....

Yep, still feeling it for Middle-earth. I've seen The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug three times (<-nerd), and am enjoying the extended version of An Unexpected Journey. More songs! X3 ...But with one scene, I kind of wanted to rinse my eyes out.... (Of course, I can't do that to my mind's eye.) Those dwarves can be so loveable...and yet not.

This picture is a first for me, though; it is the first picture I've made entirely on the computer, with little more than guide lines to establish the shapes at first.

And yes, I'm aware of how I suck with mountains. (And rocks, really....)
